My name is Kathryn Blauvelt but I go by Katie. I was born in China and raised in New Jersey with my older sister. I am a sophomore at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and plan on majoring in marine biology to either research unknown animals or to research and protect endangered animals. During my time at UNCW, I plan on studying abroad for a semester or two before I graduate. I would love to go to Fiji, Thailand or anywhere tropical!
UNCW offers everything a student needs to succeed. One of my favorite traditions at UNCW is the annual Beach Blast! It's a great time to catch up with friends or meet new people, receive free things and relax on the beach. The most important piece of advice to incoming freshman I would give is to learn how to balance your academic and social life. College is an amazing time to be free and set your own rules, but it is important to stay on top of your school work. Having said that, my favorite place to study is either my room or the library in between classes. When I'm not studying for classes, I'm either hanging out with friends or taking a nap!
It can be hard to adjust during the first year of college so just remember to try your best but have fun and make wonderful memories!
